Every woman carries a story.
A story of resilience.
A story of sacrifice.
A story that shapes her children, her family, and her entire community.

But too often, her story is marked by barriers like poverty, trauma, and lack of opportunity.

Because she matters, that story can change.

Because She Matters

Meet Doreen Ngosa

VIDEO: See how Doreen and her family have seen their lives transform since enrolling in ACE’s Family Preservation and Empowerment Program (FPEP).

Doreen Ngosa and her husband care for a large blended family, including three biological children, a stepson, and a two-year-old niece. Life was once a daily struggle. They often survived on one meal a day, with constant worries about food, school fees, and other needs.

Everything began to change when Doreen joined ACE's Family Preservation and Empowerment Program (FPEP). With training, mentorship, and a seed fund, Doreen expanded her fruit-selling business, grew her tailoring venture, and even learned to make and sell doormats. Her efforts quickly bore fruit. In 2024, Doreen purchased a plot of land for K5,500 and began molding bricks to build her family’s home by selling extra bricks for income. She also bought two sewing machines, officially launched her tailoring business, and trained her husband and children to help.

Now, Doreen’s family enjoys three meals a day, her children attend school regularly (including her partially deaf child), and she contributes to a local savings group (ROSCA) to fund her dream home.
