5 WAYS TO HELP ORPHANED CHILDREN THIS WEEK.

Orphan Sunday is coming up on November 7, 2021!

For the past twenty years, Christians around the world have stood together to care for orphaned children on Orphan Sunday. Read on to learn five ways that the ACE Family can help the orphaned babies and children we serve in Zambia!

#1: WATCH

Did you know Orphan Sunday began in Zambia? We encourage you to watch the video “Zambia’s Gift to the World” by Christian Alliance for Orphans to understand more about the origins of Orphan Sunday and the heart behind the day.

I felt that if Christ walked this earth physically, and that Agness was in such a situation he would help her.

#2: LEARN

Learn how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected orphaned children.

In Zambia, cases of child abandonment are on the rise due to the secondary impacts of COVID-19 including worsening economic instability and hunger. The sign in this photo was left with a seven-month-old baby beneath a tree recently. Orphaned children need our help, especially now!

As a result, thousands of orphaned children in Zambia are facing higher risks of physical and emotional harm including:

  • Separation from siblings, extended family, and neighbors

  • Domestic violence

  • Exclusion from school

  • Malnutrition and health complications

  • Child marriage, labor, and trafficking

  • Living on the streets

You can read more about the ‘The Hidden Pandemic’ of COVID-19 in this joint orphanhood report from international government and university partners.

#3: PRAY

Prayer is powerful. Right this minute, there are sixty babies and children from newborn to six years old who have experienced disruption from their families.

Please pray for every child in our care:

  • To experience physical safety while living in our crisis nurseries;

  • To heal in mind, body, and spirit from trauma due to family disruption, abuse, or neglect;

  • To join a permanent, safe, and loving family through reintegration, fostering, or adoption.

Ideas, dreams, and visions don’t change the world. Rather, it’s people—like you and me, who faithfully, prayerfully, and tenaciously live out these ideas, dreams, and visions—who change the world.

#4: SHARE

Your voice is powerful! Share a post on social media so people know that orphaned children in Zambia need help, and the church is here to help them! Tell your family or church that there are orphaned children this Christmas who need safety and love.

#5: GIVE

From now until December 31, our ‘Give the Gift of Family’ campaign aims to raise funds for orphaned and abandoned babies and children in Lusaka, Zambia.

$6.85 provides a night of safe shelter to an orphaned child this Christmas. Your gift also brings children in our crisis nurseries toward families of their own through reintegration, fostering, and adoption.
